It only takes a few cells to survive the chemo and return as another tumor with altered receptors. There are doctors that don't necessarily go along with a few different cells. More studies are needed (as always) to convince everyone this is true.
I don't think it really matters if the new tumors are a recurrence or a new bc. They will still treat them by what receptor sites the lab reports.
Things to remember - none of us are a statistic. Ruby and I are both examples of that. We continue to be living and breathing exceptions to the stats. What does matter is our attitude and willingness to keep on fighting and believing we can over come this. Ruby is my hero. Her example of fighting like a girl gives me courage.
