lymphedema I was told is a possible side effect after surgery, especially if you had lymph nodes removed because the nodes help drain fluid from your arm...I was advised to get measurements done before surgery then to get a second set after surgery to see if the arm is getting bigger...usually this is done by a physical therapist that specializes in lymphedema...they may recommend wearing a compression sleeve to wear on your arm, ,especially if you fly...also there are exercises you can do to promote fluid drainage, mainly I avoid using the affected side...no pulling open doors or lifting heavy grocery bags...this was a challenge for me since my surgery was on the left side and I'm left-handed....I've had no problems with swelling so far
