I think those that do pediatric ICU or neonatal ICU wins the gold medal in compassion. I could never take care of babies or children. It can tear you heart out watching what those seriously ill kids go through.
I never thought of myself as especially compassionate. I was fascinated with the mechanical aspect of the ICU. All those wonderful machines to play with and people to care for. Loved it when the patients were able to talk with me and I got paid to play with the machines and visit. Oh how I love to visit with people :D
