I agree with Suzy. Ask the doctor what he/she would advise if you were a family member. Also, when making a recommendation for a lumpectomy vs. mastectomy, the doctor may take any results of the BRCA test into account as well as your status (e.g., if you are triple-), and also your family history (e.g., if you have a mother, aunt, or sister who has had breast cancer). And a doctor may prefer one type of surgery over another. My GYN advised me to have a mastectomy, but my surgeon advised me to have a lumpectomy. In the end, the only one who can really make that choice is YOU. Hope that helps.
