I had a lumpectomy and all nodes removed (due to 4 positive for BC) Typically, if they find positive nodes, they will take out what's necessary at the same time. 5 years ago, all of them were removed, but that's not the case any longer.
I had no trouble with recovery. Never needed a pain pill. Just took it easy for a few days. I used a bag of frozen peas to put over the surgical site, and it really took the pain away.
I was much more sore in the area where the nodes removed. I probably have a 4" scar there. Used ice in that area also. I just kept switching out my bags of frozen peas!
