recently developed a lump that turned out to be a cyst. She has dense breasts and it does make it difficult to diagnose accurately without a biopsy, although they could try an MRI, I guess. A biopsy will say definitively.
It's a parent's nightmare to have a child come down with the same disease as one of the parents, but there's really no information as of yet on what your daughter has. Cysts are very common in young women with larger, dense breasts, far more common than cancer.
Big breaths, Ed. I know it's frightening. I thought I would have a heart attack too. I didn't discuss it on this board. My daughter has posted here and felt uncomfortable if I mentioned posting about it so I didn't. She says it's okay this time, to reassure you.
She's doing great and her doctor told her this is actually pretty common, told her to cut out caffeine to help knock back the fibrocysts and spare herself all the scans (and me the terror). She's 19 so you can see how very careful they are these days if there's a close family history of bc.
Hang tough, Ed. We don't know anything yet. Stats and probabilities are in her favor.
