No check valve in the fuel filter at the end of the pick up.....fuel runs from the tank up the intake line to the fuel pump (diaphram) to a water separator to the carb....the diaphram can go bad if it dries out....also the primer bulb can also fail (its also a diaphram) but if faulty will allow air into the fuel line...
