As a writer, I love the image of Kayla's lips being an exhaust pipe. When I first became fascinated with smoking, the part that I was most fascinated with was the way more smoke than I thought it was possible to inhale came tumbling out of smokers' lips as they exhaled. It was even better if they made a soft whooshing sound as they did so.
