My wife has quit a few times. Sometimes for personal reasons (I need to quit or I "want" to quit) and sometimes for more fundamentally necessary ones (when she was pregnant). I've always put on the happy face even when I felt the disappointment, and I generally did try, at some point well after the announcement, to slip in a query about, "Well, is there any chance smoking can be rolled out every once in a while just for old time's sake?" Generally, she said that she'll always be able to light up at least a few times a year even if she quits, though she might refrain from inhaling. In the end though, despite quitting several times, she's always come back at some point eventually to the cigarettes, though this most recent time at a much reduced amount. I know the day will probably come one day when she quits entirely, and that's just something I'll deal with, just like I dealt with it before she came into my life and I had NO smoking partner at all.
But, I think if you're patient and let her know she's loved for more than her smoke, you'll stand a decent chance of being able to at least get some special gifts of smoke in the future from time to time even if she stays quit.
Either way, man, I wish the best for you and her, and hopefully together. :-)
