I'm reminded of Kurt Vonnegut when he claimed to have a lawsuit against Brown and Williamson because they claimed smoking cigarettes would kill him and they hadn't.
It occurs to me that even if a smoker does not experience severe negative health consequences from smoking and lives a long fulfilling life eventually succumbing to old age, cigarettes will have been effective because they enabled the smoker to experience the Risk of smoking and all the rewards of taking it.
