I think that danger is a large part of the enjoyment for many people, but not all. I no longer smoke regular cigs and enjoy e-cigs. The e-cig simulates the act of smoking quite well, without the carcinogens. It also delivers nicotine. The e-cig is not for everyone. If you want danger (cancer, etc.) to be part of the smoking experience, they are not for you.
