I guess this is why my favorite pictures of people smoking are those of people that do not fit the image that society has created of the smoker.
I can relate to that. For example, look at this almost flawless depiction of innocence:
What is she trying to express with her eyes? Fear, unease, self-consciousness? She seems slightly uncomfortable with the idea of immortalizing this pose of hers, but then again, she wouldn't, she couldn't stop dragging despite all the bad gossip this picture might evoke. After all, she looks like a girl that does not intend to disappoint. And how disappointing would a smoking goodie-goodie girl be?
But I see more than just resentment. Look closely, and you'll notice how she's coquetting with the idea of her and her cigarette being captured for all the world to see. Is this what separates the occasional social smoker, who may actually be ashamed of her habit, from the proud public smoker?
And, to not miss the original topic, would you file this girl in the same category as our attractive black-leather vamp? Does she, or does she not?
