Once upon a time I was an avid X-Files fan, through roughly the first five seasons...until Chris Carter got greedy and destroyed the show by letting the narrative go on and on into increasingly ridiculous realms. Eventually I became so saddened by the whole degeneration of this thing that I loved so much that I not only stopped watching, but I found that I began to actively suppress all memory of it.
Which is why I had completely failed to recognize the Vince Gilligan connection!
But now that my memory has been jogged - thanks to you, and to this article - I can definitely recognize a lot of little X-Files style details in the show and in the characters.
Which is kind of delightful after all of this time...
