I do find that this "awareness" adds to the attraction of smoking for me. I recall sneaking off to smoke with a friend at age 17. She had a packet of Gauloises. They were so strong and harsh to the taste. Just the same, there was something about smoking what we believed to be the most toxic and unhealthy cigarette known to man. When I reflect on it now, I'm not certain if it was an exercise in rebellion or masochism.
It's funny. I know that I repeat this experience to some degree. I keep a packet of Dunhill in a drawer. It's far stronger than my regular brand. The first inhale of a Dunhill is pure unhealthy bliss. It's a special occasion and perhaps part of the joy of being "bad."
