"Smoking is like one giant cultural ball of twine, there are so many interlocking emotions, stigmas and features to it that it's sometimes hard to recognize which one binds you to it. However, I believe that smoking by itself is most likely not the reason for your attachment to it - there's something deeper that you connect with the act of smoking that drives you nuts about it. If you find out what it is (I'd recommend browsing your childhood memories for hints [...]), maybe you'll be able to control your behavior in a way that suits your preferences."
I couldn't agree with your more, Sphay.
I think that it is essential to realize that for anything to rise to the level of a Fetish, there has to be all manner of thoughts and feelings and experiences and reactions about it that come together over many years that result in the persistent sexual attraction. And remembering the moments in which you first had these thoughts and feelings and experiences and reactions can be very enlightening as to why we find certain things about the Object of our Unusual Desires to be so exciting and erotic. And once you get a handle on why these things excite you so much, you can not only control your tendency to compulsive behavior more, you can also have a lot more fun with your Fetish when you do decide to deliberately entertain it.
