You are both so very blessed to have each other as steadfast and true friends. You have enriched us all by sharing this vignette of such timely interest.
The issue ....especially for me, is one of acceptance. We are striving to be comfortable with who we are as people who smoke, despite our growing, age-dependent awareness of the danger that lurks in the future. That you both can discuss mortality and your own hand in that scenario with humor is a gem that serves as a great example of how friendship once again soothes your agitation and reassures you both that come what may, you'll be there for her and she for you.
