A: Read the forum introduction and previous discussions, which will flesh out the common threads and themes at this forum.
B: Think about how you relate or don't to these common threads and themes.
C: Offer your reactions(s) as you feel motivated to do so.
Unfortunately, my time is very limited at present, so I can only offer more than moderation occasionally. And I do offer quite a few topical talking points that very few choose to respond to with much detail. Every week, I post a new forum header image chock full o' little conceptual nuggets designed to provoke discussion. (Not that anyone has to respond to them, as far as I'm concerned. I still receive great pleasure in making them. 
)
But intelligent, thoughtful folks, such as your own good self, are more than welcome to carry on even when I'm unable to.
A discussion forum is like anything else, in that the more you give, the more you get.
And I'm not the only one who has to start the giving.
