Abso-fraggin-lutely dammit! For me, anyway, it's basically entirely psychological, to the point where the actual smoking almost doesn't matter, and what matters most instead is the optons, choices, and consequences it represents. For others it is, of course, different. But I for one can definitely relate to what you're saying.
