But they *know* they will be taking smoke into their lungs. Their body will react, surely, some with more severe reactions than others. I had a slight catch in my throat, but didn't cough. Your mind can be very powerful, and "mind over matter" is undeniably a certainty - been there, done that at times. As for lungs not wanting the smoke - I can agree and disagree with you. Our lungs are designed to take in oxygen, distribute it to our blood, and return the CO2. Yet the very act of breathing means we are constantly inhaling more than just clean air. Ever watch dust particles dance in a ray of sunlight coming through a window? We are breathing that as well. On a daily basis, we'll inhale dust, dirt, pollen. Some jobs have more exposure to more particulates - look at the people that work with concrete mix, mortar mix, fiberglass insulation. One could argue that the amount of particulates inhaled from those are much less than the direct drag from a cigarette, but they too are toxic nonetheless (silica dust for example). I've been writing this so long I think I've lost the point I was going to make! LOL One final thought. During the first 9 months of your life, you breath *liquid* (if you even want to call it breathing). Ever see the movie The Abyss? They develop some liquid which is rich in oxygen and nitrogen, and for deep sea diving purposes, actually fill the lungs of divers with it instead of air. This allows the divers to go deeper much more safely. That may be science fiction, but think about it - you are asking the lungs to do exactly what they did for their first 9 months of existence - obtain oxygen from a liquid. The mind and body are so conditioned to breathing air that the characters in the movie had a very hard time the first time "breathing" this liquid, but eventually became used to it. Even though I know of no liquid like this, it is not that too far-fetched. OK, my ramble is done for now. I've got to get some work done here! Talk to you later!

You make very good points (which is why I decided to start posting here :-) ) But I am tending to agree with Spyplane more.
