Posted by Richard Freelance, your post gives me an excellent opportunity to dive in. I very much like the contrast you draw between serious long-term risks on the one hand and immediate deleterious effects on the other. My personal version of the fetish is entirely concerned with the latter. I don't get excited at all by the thought of the risk that a woman's cigarette habit might result in death or serious illness in the future and, as I've said before, I remain sceptical as to whether this risk constitutes an attraction for most smokers. It certainly doesn't for those I know most closely, including my wife. On the other hand I am very turned on by the smoker who is experiencing present, though not life-threatening, effects such as those you mention - shortness of breath, lack of stamina and effects on her physical appearance, and yet takes no action to break the addiction. I don't see this as having much to do with "badness". When I was young I was never attracted to girls who smoked to create a bad girl image; nor would I now be attracted by the idea of a mature woman smoking to appear "bad". Rather it's the idea of the woman who is fully aware of the effect which smoking is having on her lifestyle (as opposed to what it might do to her in the future) and yet makes the decision to continue to smoke that I find most erotic. I sense some of this in M G F's posts, though not in Vesperae's. I may be wrong, but I don't recall you writing about this, Vesperae. You emphasise the excitement of the risk for you, but what about effects which have already materialised? Is that part of the attraction for you, as regards yourself or as regards other women? Incidentally, I have read the threads started by John with great interest. You have covered the ground on self-exploration so thoroughly that I don't really have much to add (but thanks to Bob for suggesting that I might!). If that discussion re-starts I will contribute my twopenceworth.

Looks like I picked the wrong time to go on holiday - I've missed a lot of interesting discussions!
