The Prometheus Transform Inevitably, like Prometheus I had to transform you The flame that devours you by degrees Incense for my soul, My chest craves drink of your airy soul

I wrote this poem, "The Prometheus Transform" over a year ago, as the core of a Fumerotic fiction wherein a woman was beginning to express herself with a newfound love of writing poetry, and performing it in a coffeehouse.
It (the fiction) was ultimately consigned to the pile of submissions who didn't make the grade. Someday, I'm sure it will appear in print, but not yet.
with my gift of liberating fire.
It is your Kismet that I magically made
your pristine column star-tipped;
Long ago, it was decreed that I would
with a miniature sun crown you
Whilst I command the rush of ether clear
To pass your smoldering eye
And there mingle with ghostly perfume
That fluid stream to fill my yearning depths.
Consumes your pliant shaft into foggy diffusion
A fraction more for each longing kiss.
My lips pull to enrich your ember and you yield
Marked by the blazes of your golden lamp to feed me
Your diaphanous miasma born in that jeweled smelter
That marks your change to silky fumes and powdery ash.
How painful your transformation?
Is that the amber glow of agony
Screams of light your tortured response to my every sip
As you escape your charring substance
As vapor; now a spirit ribbon rushing into me,
Or drifting upward in spidery webs
diffusing into infinite haze?
Your burnt flavor sooths my racing heart
And colors my breath a pale blue chalk.
Your doom is that I cannot quaff your flowing balm
Unless I martyr you so slowly
Mouthful by snowy mouthful.
