If it was in black and white and a serious health issue I’ve no question she would quit. She’s also at the age now where she is talking about kids (lets not go there though) and I think in her mind her cut off point may well be when she gets pregnant (so many young women seem to have that as a possible quit point). I can only hope that after her pregnancy she would find her cigarettes again and I don’t deny I would do all I can to help her. There’s a dark thought eh? Encouraging the mother of your child back into her deadly habit. I cant force her to smoke only encourage. Some dark part of me secretly hopes that by the time she wakes up and smell the coffee as you say that it will by then…………be too late for her. Pete
I know exactly what you mean and have also given this some thought. I’ve always made no bones about encouraging my girlfriend to smoke, always complimenting her on how good it looks and creating an environment where it is really easy and comfortable for her to continue smoking. But despite all that she’s not stupid she knows the dangers of smoking and the clock is ticking so to speak. I’ve always wondered what would happen if she had a major health scare and decided to quit. Up till now a smokers cough and declining stamina are consequences that she seems able to live with. Occasionally she will come out and say she’s going to quit but nothing thankfully has really come of it. She’s now in her thirties so the honeymoon period is over if you will. Unlike many of the fictional characters in darkside fiction she is not on a deathwish to smoke at all costs until it kills her.
