As we've discussed in the past the contrasts that frequently accompany smoking are, for me at least, frequently stimulating. Taking a page from my own life (and I hope M G F will post about it soon) my girlfriend has been working a shift in the pulmonary ward at the hospital for the past six weeks or so. Not only is she a highly trained nurse, familiar in acute detail with the health risks from smoking, who continues to smoke with great pleasure, she has recently been exposed every day with examples of one facet of smoking's worst and most extreme effects on the body. I asked her not long ago if her relationship with smoking had been affected by caring for men and women of different ages whose lungs were failing, in most cases, because they were smokers. She says it has not, but that she has come to have a somewhat keener appreciation of the Risk she (and I) is taking every time she indulges her desire to smoke. It is a contrast I hope we can explore further.
I do remember our earlier exchange and was going to quote the lovely dark lunged Ms. Beckinsale's comment, but didn't have the time to find it.
