Posted by vesperae Thank you so much for your kind words, for taking the time to de-lurk, and especially, for sharing your thoughtful comments with us! So I take it that your wife doesn't smoke? And also that she doesn't know about your Smoking Fetish? How does she feel about your smoking? I think that it is so interesting that you describe the realization of the dream of becoming and being a smoker. What led to making this such a goal for you? It seems that you also enjoy relating your smoking to the smoking of those whom you find attractive? One of the things that we've discussed here before that I always think is an interesting question is this - if you had the opportunity to get a chest spiral CT scan and have the results interpreted for you, would you want to know what's *really* going on "in there", or would you rather leave this to your imagination? And why? Another thing that I always wonder about when I think about the Darker Dimensions of my own attraction to smoking is this - to what extent are smokers who don't have a SF motivated to smoke by the awareness of the danger that they are putting themselves in? Obviously a SF acts as a kind of psychological lens that makes conscious awareness of the *Sublime* nature of smoking either much clearer, or in a context of shame over having a SF, much more difficult to accept. But for all smokers, especially in this day and age, it seems like awareness of the dangers of smoking almost certainly has to factor into their decision to start and to continue smoking in some significant way, with addiction to nicotine only explaining an insufficient part of the motivation to continue. And these thoughts are the essence of my attraction to smokers, and to smoking. Here is a very interesting 2002 article I recently came across about the response of Australia's young women to the aggressive "internal organs visualization" AS TV PSAs campaigns of the last few years (links to several of which can be found in the multimedia archive of the forum): Macquarie University News: "Grossed Out But Hanging In" Young female respondents stated being so overwhelmed by the imagery and ideas of these PSAs as to not be able to relate to them at all, and some report even being motivated to light up right after watching one of these ads! Which really isn't that surprising, given the authoritarian, over-the-top, heavy-handedness of these spots, the youthful reflexive tendency toward rebelliousness in response to this, and the garden variety "it won't happen to me" type denial. But is there something more to this reflexive response to smoke after seeing one of these spots? Consider the likely possibility that the young women who responded didn't either share all of their more private thoughts about smoking in their responses, or that they weren't aware of all of the paradoxical subconscious motivations to smoke that many of them are very probably reacting to. I suspect that there can be a certain amount of real fear that inspires or becomes transformed into excitement when a smoker (without a SF) is exposed to these types of heavy-handed AS messages, and I also tend to believe that these types of AS approaches ultimately only serve to reinforce the *Forbidden Fruit* appeal of smoking. The youth market interpretation can easily become: "Danger is Sexy. Risk is Exciting. Being Bad feels Good."
