Under marginal summer track conditions, the big tire car will clearly have a traction advantage. We saw this when the MSRA PSI 9.50 index class was allowed to have tubbed cars...those cars became the dominant combination.
If I wanna race over-tired/under-powered cars I'll go bracket race.
Tire size has nothing to do with performance/ET, it has EVERYTHING to do with getting off the line consistently under challenging track conditions.
On race day, everyone should have a level playing field and a max tire size rule will give just that.
I also think it's more impressive to the fans in the stands to see heavier high powered small tire cars laying down impressive ET's than it is to see light weight/lower powered, big tire bracket type cars.
