My partner and I were assigned to a "cooler check post" at the VP Fair Detail a few years back. We were told to check each cooler for alcohol. I had just rented my first pager, and decided to put it to good use.
As our first customer approached, I asked if he had any beer in his cooler, to which he stated "no". I produced my pager and told him it was a new alcohol detector that the PD had purchased just for the fair. I turned it off, and as I passed it over his cooler, I turned it back on, causing it to beep several times.
He said "Aw Shit....You got me", and opened up the cooler which was full of beer. He didn't want to give up the beer, or lug it back to the car, so he proceeded to stand across Memorial Drive, basically doing our job for us as he warned others not to bring beer into the fair, because of the "alcohol detectors" being used by the police.
I'm sure someone should have a similar story regarding suspects, and "lie detector tests" conducted at the station.
