A real policeman knows another real policeman when they see and interact with them. If you can't tell the difference between a cop and someone who just wears our uniform, that should tell you what group you are in.
Another tip would be what kind of arrests you make, if any, and if you ever ran away to "get help" when things turned south. sp was the help but turned and ran away.
