Yeah Jason, The covers are not Lollar.....
I have had 3 guitars with regular lollars on them and I definitely like the tone and versatility of these Costello wind '50s better. Maybe you hear more power tube and less over slammed preamp stage, I don't know. This type of shit drives me nuts cause I really don't know what the f*^$ I'm talking about, I just know what I hear is good. Some of the guys on TGP got all technical about these PUPs so you might want to search that site for a little more on them......
Thanks for the compliment on the guit! I have such a tough time visualtizing the end product, it scares me to death! Saul does a great job and usually tells me if I am going nuts. BTW, this is the first guitar that Saul has built that he didn't finish. Because of the metalic paint and the my desire to try a POLY finish, he felt better about having Pat Wilkins do the job (and the finish is absolutely flawless).

: Jack Briggs was telling me today that the
: chrome covers have to be sourced from
: somebody like All Parts. I had never seen
: chrome covers listed on Lollar's site before
: so that might 'splain it. I know that Jack
: has experience with at least one of Saul's
: instruments and I'm thinking perhaps it
: might have had the chrome covers on the
: soapbars if I remember what he told me.
:
: In any case, that is a killer looking
: fiddle. Hope you enjoy it. If you ever
: have a way of filming or recording some
: sounds, please pass them along.

: Ha...that IS chrome!!! Looks killer!
: Hadn't
: seen any of Jason's chrome covered bars.
: Awesome! A lower-wind Lollar 90 sounds like
: something I need to check into. I have two
: of my instruments loaded with his soapbars.
: My favorite pickups!!!

: Jason,
:
: The P90 covers are chrome.. I really like
: the '50's wind, not as much output. They
: are more versitile, not so easy to overload
: the preamp.
:
: Norm,
: It sounds great, I actually like it better
: than my other Koll. Saul wired it so that I
: have the standard Strat 5 way plus I can get
: neck and bridge or I can get all three at
: the same time plus I can throw the bridge
: out of phase whenever it is used with any
: other PUP. I am using neck and bridge
: allot.
: The guitar is way different sounding for me
: so I am really excited by it. I can get an
: amazing variety of usable tone from it. The
: neck feels great and is a tad thicker than
: my other Koll.
:
: It is a 25" scale, alder body, mahog
: set neck , braz board. Hipshot trem,
: sperzel machines. The paint was done by
: California painter, Pat Wilkins and is POLY.

: Retro and futuristic at the same
: time...nice.
: Are those soapbars black or chrome? Hard to
: tell from the angle/reflection. Probably a
: standard black that's still new and shiny.
: A trio of Lollar P90s is my favorite way to
: go. Congrats.

: Got the Koll that I have been wating for for
: a year and a half....well worth the wait!
:
: And I got a Reinhardt MI-6 6V6 head. Like
: the amp allot, it took a little tube
: swapping to get the TONE, but it ROCKS and
: sounds great with the Lollar '50s Costello
: wind PUPs on the Koll.
