Posted by viperfan1983 on 2/11/2002, 13:22:36 Trembecky and defenceman Andre Malo have played their last games for the club. But coming the other way is former Newcastle Jester Rob Wilson, also caught up in the financial problems which saw Manchester Storm release Longstaff. The Vipers fought off a late bid from Guildford to land Wilson, who will ice for Newcastle in their British National League fixture at Solihull/Milton Keynes tomorrow (6.00). Wilson's arrival is another huge boost for the Vipers following the capture of Longstaff earlier in the week. Both players became free agents after Superleague team Manchester failed to pay them a month's wages last week. Guildford had made an approach to Wilson on Thursday night but Wilson already had his mind set on returning to Tyneside. The experienced blue liner is still owed money by the Newcastle Jesters but settled well in the North East during the 2000/01 season and played for coach Clyde Tuyl at Sheffield in the mid-1990s along with Longstaff. Newcastle are still short on numbers in defence but Wilson will ease the pressure with Great Britain pair Ian Defty and Ritchie Thornton to miss next week's games while on international duty. Malo told Tuyl after Wednesday night's game against Guildford he could no longer combine his careers on and off the ice. The Canadian - training to become a teacher - had planned to retire last month but delayed hanging up his skates to help out the fledgling club. As for Trembecky, the forward has made way for Longstaff, the Vipers having to work within a tight budget in their debut BNL campaign. The centreman has been loaned to Fife and is set to play for them this weekend at Basingstoke and Coventry. Newcastle, meanwhile, will look to get back to winning ways against Solihull - beaten 4-1 on Tyneside - following their disappointing home defeat against Guildford. Tuyl said: "You look at their win/loss record and it doesn't seem like they've been doing too well. "Here in September it was shadow boxing all the way. "We only came out on top late in the game. "But I'm confident if we play with the intensity we displayed against Guildford we will be in good shape." Karl Culley did not ice in midweek because of pain from a tooth abscess but should play tomorrow. Stephen Wallace will miss the Guildford game after being called up by GB Under-20s.
