I did obtain some 1/35 scale prints of a s.I.G 33 in Panzer Tracts No. 8, and that was my starting point. Presently looking for all DRK books with Stalingrad destroyed units in them. Here are the ones currently on the top of my list.
I scan the s.I.G 33 prints at a high resolution and insert the images into AutoCAD. I adjust image to reference the Hull distance at a 1-1 scale. I traced the lines, created 3D shapes from the bodies, and rotated them in 3D to the correct axis and angles. Just if you were to building a real vehicle from steel plates.
Although the prints are a great help, they seem to be of a second generation s.I.G 33 and not the first 12 that were built and sent to Stalingrad. The Tank Museum at Kubinka, Russia states that the s.I.G 33 they have on display was capture at Stalingrad and I believe is the only surviving one from WWII. The Kubinka s.I.G 33 has some differences from the Panzer Tract prints, most notably is the Kubinka s.I.G has no main gun barrel support and a different headlight mount. These are not my pictures of the Kubinka s.I.G but are some that I found on the web. I will be returing in May to Kubinka and will take more detail pictures at that time.
Adding more details, 80% completed.
