Supposedly it's from a first-hand account of the battle, given by Lt. Anton Kuzmich Dragan, who said it was a three story building at the corner of Krasnopiterskaya and Komsomolskaya streets, and he identified the person who scratched the phrase into the wall as his orderly, "Kozhushko." I think most of these seemingly punched up and propagandized stories (especially the ones from the Soviet side) probably derive their roots from actual events, but who knows...
