My walk around Intourist Hotel/Railway Station and Flour Mill/Riverbank district (although small in area) was most memorable, allowing me time to absorb what I was seeing, while moving at slow foot pace. It was an especially sobering experience to take time and think about Stalingrad while sitting near Lenin's Statue/Pavlov's House area. While walking around these areas, I photographed the 'Woman in Flames' memorial on the river bank walk. Lobotomy, do you know more about that scuplture? Who made it? When was it was made? What type of bomb is displayed? etc. Also just to say I regard those dates you mentioned as most significant. I used to teach Soviet History to students down here in Australia, and those dates were emphasised as important/strategic moments in the titanic ebb and flow struggle between the Wehrmacht/Luftwaffe and Red Army/Red Airforce. Good to share some thoughts with you, and thanks for your comments too. Paul.
