It's funny, I've always liked to think that I know a lot about the topography of Stalingrad, but when I look at the detail in those maps, it's like, those guys are masters! I'm not worthy... This one, "TP:S", is of another kind. It uses a Area-Impulse system and is the 3rd game of this kind that was produced. What we should do is use Russ's 3d Stalingrad model to create a Doom3-ish FPS for Stalingrad. They'd be writing songs about us for a hundred years if we did that! Apart from my copy I've been since 1990 or so I have a 2nd copy still unopen and in the original factory plastic, just in case... Oh yeah! Just in case it's worth a freakin' fortune some day! But they show up from time to time on eBay. I work in a factory that was built in 1940 to do war production for the US Navy. I like to think it's a factory very similar to the ones in Stalingrad. From time to time some memorabilia from the factory shows up on ebay; here's one right now: I admire guys, like Russ seems to be able to do it, who can keep track of stuff like "on September 17 blah-blah motorized division was subordinated to blah-blah armeekorps..." I go brain-dead...
"SOS" depicts the battle within the city, it's what we call a monster game (it's huge indeed! 3' x 6' map - in 3 sections - 2,304 counters, 8 different scenarios... a real monster!), quite well detailed, but uses the traditional hexagone system.
It's my favorite type of system.
The first two were "Storm over Arnhem" and "Thunder at Cassino", and the fourth was "Breakout:Normandy". With such titles I guess no need to detail what each of them is about.
More recently a 5th one was made "Monty's Gamble:Market Garden". The title also explains the objective of the game I guess.
I believe that what I have in the game is the 24th Infantry Division, which includes a good number of very strong tanks. Just like Russ graphics on the main page, attacking the south of the city.
In the game there are also a few strong armor units that setup in the north, attacking the city from Yerzovka (sp?), Vinnovka (sp?) and Latashanka (sp?). But the "parent organization" of such units is eith the 60 or the 16 Battalions, but I'm not sure to which Division or Army they belong.
