:Jamie, Actually the name "Spiers" originates right in your backyard as far as I know. My understanding is that some Scottish people named "Spiers" moved from Scotland to Germany in the 1300s. I am from Memphis, Tennessee. My father, who would be 71 this year but died 3 years ago, recalled on occasion his grandfather who was a short red-haired man who spoke only German. !
