One more then I will leave you alone =:-)
I find the statement by Florence Reedy particularly interesting in this one aspect... Pantagenet Roll of the Blood Royal only lists 2 sons of Archibald, son of Alexander Spiers. Was the statement that he had 3 sons particularly relevant? He was married in 1794, and Alexander was born in 1803. Was there another son born in there? Does the family legend of John's flight from his father not only have some basis, but include disinheritance? (Archibald passed on the title and bloodlines on to Alexander.)
Interesting speculation, regardless.
There was, however, a John Spiers in Savannah Ga papers before 1799, so it may just be a separate blood line, possibly connected to Alexander Spiers' brother, John (potentially John Sr.?) I am trying to find records on him, but they appear to be stored in the Glasglow library, so It will be a while...
