I have already posted a couple of responses, but here is one more =:-)
I believe there is a connection, but none directly to John from Scotland. However, his uncle may very well have stayed in Virginia or New York (I find records that Archibald was married in New York with no descendants, and remarried in Scotland) In addition, there are records on JSTOR that indicate that Archibald's brother and sister may have remained in Virginia at the start of the war. Typical migration and naming patterns would suggest that the younger Spiers brother (also a John, I believe? It has been a while since I looked up the info) could have well named a second (or third?) son Archibald, and they may have migrated through the Carolina's to GA. My next move is to try to find children of the younger Spiers bro, which may take a while. I intend to use the new research center here in Knoxville TN some this summer to try to trace it.
Good Luck!
