H.J.Spiers was the Director of Machinery Workshop in the Sociedad Espaņola de Construccion Naval (SECN) shipyard at Ferrol, Spain facilities. In 1912 he became Shipyard Managing Director (Archibald Campbell was the previous one)and was also the head of an important british colony settled in Ferrol when the SECN was created in 1908.
