Hi Dani,
Yes, I have a wonderful reference for you! She is a postpartum doula and her name is Kristy Huber (801-638-3189). She doesn't normally do nights, but she helped me during the day and was truly a life saver. I don't know what I would have done without her.
I have 1 year old twins and my family is all on the east coast. When I was pregnant everyone told me to line up as much help as I could for when my girls arrived. Personally I thought that was the best advice I received! Can you do it by yourself? Probably so...but it will be a much easier and more enjoyable road if you have some help in the beginning.
I had a hard time finding a night nanny. I put an ad on craigs list and ended up with a college student who was very nice, but it honestly was a little awkward to have someone sleeping in my house, and I had to get up to feed anyway, so she wasn't as big a help as I had hoped (I know others who swore by their night nanny though, so it probably depends on who you find). After a couple weeks we decided to let the night nanny go.
Kristy came several days a week, and she was incredible. She took care of the babies when I needed a nap or shower, she took care of me when I needed caring for, helped me with breastfeeding (which didn't come easy for us), made sure I got rest, healthy food, etc. to help me recover from my c-section, and even helped with the laundry, the dishes, and keeping the house from falling apart. Basically she was like a mom to all of us, but unlike my husband's and my moms, it hadn't been 30 years since she had been around a newborn, so she was a huge wealth of knowledge...and her info was current and accurate
If we hit a roadblock, Kristy knew exactly what to do.
Good luck to you and enjoy those little ones when they arrive! You are in for an incredible journey...a challenge for sure, but worth it in every way!!
