It's now hard for me to remember what's happening at 9 months, but I'll give it a try. Not sitting up does seem a little behind, but might just be on the later end of normal. Are they getting enough time to use their muscles? Now-a-days, they have such great swings, car seats, and other sitting devices, that kids don't get enought practice. I would make sure that they get plenty time on the floor with toys that entice them to push themselves. For example, if they need to start sitting, a toy that they can sit at would be motivating. When I was trying to help one of my twins to get on all fours, I took a couch cushion down and put toys on it. I then propped him so his knees were on the floor and hands on the cushion. When I wanted to work on crusing on furniture, I put cheerios all around the furniture and they had to walk holding onto it to get the treats. If you're still worried, you can contact the early childhood development program in your school district and request an evaluation by a physical or occupational therapist. This is free, although they have guidelines for who qualifies. It doesn't hurt to look into it. They may even have some suggestions for other activities.
