Another option that worked for us was the co-sleeper, which is like a playpen with a full-size bassinet option, but the nice thing is it attaches to your bed (like a sidecar) and has a side that comes down so it's easy to reach into. I think the weight limit was 40 pounds, which my babies at 1 year are just now hitting (combined). Anyways, I sold mine but you can find them at Babies R Us or on ebay. They do cost a bit more than a pack and play but they do pack just as easily (we took it on two vacations) and they can be used as a playpen when you're no longer using it as a sleeping option!
