Posted by Kari Combined weight they were just over 13lbs – which would fit into that 15lb criteria you are questioning. I don’t think I’d go more than 5lbs over the recommended 15. I’m sure that’s a manufacturer suggestion for liability – and if the weight limit weren’t compromised much more than that; I think you’d be fine. More than likely, it’s going to be a temporary setup for you anyway – you’ll probably have them in their crib or somewhere else before you know it. If you are going to buy a pack n play regardless, and you think they’ll sleep in your room for a long time; maybe get the one with the basinet. Who knows, it could make a difference for you. (Unless you can borrow one for a week to see how your babies respond) I hope that was of some help - Kari

My boys came at 6lbs 10oz and 6lbs 7 ½ oz – Because I didn’t know exactly what we were in for; and they were a month early, we borrowed a pack n play from a friend that had a bassinet feature. They slept in our room in that for the first week. After that, my husband had to go to work. To give him as much sleep as possible we put them together in one crib at the highest position, and (eventually) they slept in their own room. For a while though, they got used to sleeping in their swing chairs and loved the swaying motion. I think they also liked the snugglyness of being in the chair. When they slept in the crib, they’d wiggle out of their “wrap” and got fussy more often. When they slept in their swings, I’d sleep on the couch. I think that lasted about a month, and then I got them used to going back to their beds for the night and only napping in their swings. I didn’t get much sleep regardless of what room they (or I) were in. My husband was able to sleep (for the most part) and I was able to breast feed them in their room; so that worked for us. I was too afraid of falling asleep and smothering one of them if I fed them in our bed, so I sat up in the rocking chair in their room or on the couch in the front room. I think you just need to be flexible and go with what ever works for you at the time because situations always change.
We ended up buying a pack n play when they were 6 months old (no basinet) that was larger and more square – and the kids loved playing in it too. We used it mostly for overnight trips, camping and to Grandma’s house, where they slept comfortably together for the first two years.
