Posted by sulaiman Still I stand by the essence of my comment. Also my comments about the PSF UK stand , they have used their position as official PERSILAT representative in the UK to exclude certain well known teachers and schools from participating in the PERSILAT organisation and in National & International events , where they should have been represented. Silat Gayong and Silat Lincah are a case in point - how can the 2 largest malay perguruan ( in the UK as well as Malaysia )not be represented in the UK Persilat organisation ? This is an issue which in my opinion should be looked at by Persilat itself. This type of political manouveruing to promote some schools and exclude others , with no clear guidelines or consesequences , coupled with the combative weakness of the olahragea rules has given the PERSILAT organisation something of a bad reputation amongst the UK silat community. Hopefully the situation can be addressed and resolved , for the benefit of everyone - but the motivation must come from inside PERSILAT as well as from outside --Previous Message--

asalaamualaykum awang,
ha - yes you are right, is very easy to get the two reversed !Specialy when you are typing fast.Sorry everyone !
In my opinion the olahraga rules as they are at the moment need some serious revision if they are to represent silat well in the wider martial arts world.
I feel they do not give participants an opportunity to express their silat.

: Sulaiman,
: PSSGM is founder of PESAKA who is founder
: member of PERSILAT. You also confuse
: PERSILAT with pesilat. pesilat is one who do
: silat.
: I know a lot of PERSILAT member who do not
: take part in the sport competition side of
: silat.

: Hi Paul,
: Provisionally Gayong Spain would be
: interested in something like this .
: It would all depend on how and why it was
: organised.
: If it was a genuine effort to promote Silat
: as an art, to raise the profile of silat
: amongst the martial arts community and to
: foster a spirit of cameraderie, friendly
: competition and respect between the
: different silat aliran , then I am sure
: people would get involved.
:
: In my opinion, to not repeat the pathetic
: spectacle that usually passes for silat
: competitions , you will have to seriously
: change the IPSI rules, especially when it
: comes to the olahraga.
: We definitely are not interested in taking
: part in a second rate kickboxing bout.
: To not repeat the mistakes made by silat
: organizations previously you would have to
: get all the Gurus of the interested
: Perguruans to agree a set of rules that
: protected the participants , but at the same
: time allowed them to do silat!
: I would love to see an event of this kind in
: the UK, which seems to have undergone a
: silat renaissance in the last few years ,
: and can now boast a good number of
: traditional and modern silat styles and a
: quantity of talented persilat.
:
: Shame the official Pesilat/IPSI body of the
: PSF UK has missed out on all this , and has
: managed to restrict the membership of its
: organisation to the 2 schools of its
: president and vice president.
: Would be good to see something that
: represented the traditional malay culture of
: respect and modesty rather than just
: representing the modern political culture of
: nepotism and beaurocracy !
: peace
