wa alayka assalam
you are right it is common courtesy to greet with the greeting of peace before proceeding. But to be honest with you friend when I saw the comments you unjustly directed at me ("and talk about his assistant and his mission to spread the knowledge of silat.."
I felt no peace in my heart and therefore would have been a hypocrite to say something my heart did not feel. In any case I accept your apology and I wish you and your family peace and blessings.
I think there's been a huge misunderstanding somewhere. Because again for all his faults (even clumsiness sometimes) brother hafis is a well meaning man and comes from a good home.
Finally, I don't really think this board posting pin pong is the right way to proceed. so this will be my last comment on the matter. I think that since baber has kindly extended an invitation to us to come up to manchester and meet pak ariffin that that would be the time and place to clarify the situation. I pray that I'll be able to make it but if I can't then I will certainly encourage my brother hafiz to do so; or at least catch up with him (pak ariffin) somehow while he's in this neck of the woods.
My salams to all and especially to pak ariffin

incidentally I sincerely apologise to the webmaster for not getting permission before posting my phone number; I simply did not read the discussion board rule and did not know it was against the rules - so feel free to delete that posting if you deem it necessary.

: Asalamualaikum Tariq,
: In my book its good manners to begin
: anything by greeting the person, so salams
: to you and your family.
: I have mailed Hafiz privately with my
: concerns, but as you have brought them up in
: public, for the sake of clear understanding
: all round, I will elaborate.
: My issues are these;
: 1) Hafiz has not been given permission from
: the ketua khalifa of the UK to establish
: Silat Gayong mid and north west UK.. but
: this is how he is promoting his class on his
: website.
: 2) He has not been given permission because
: we do not know him..he has not visited Pak
: Ariffin,as adab would require,and we have
: not checked him out.
: Phone calls and emails can never take the
: place of a personal visit, I dont know how
: many guru guru silat we visited in malaysia,
: but I have been taught that that is the way
: you do it.
: When I lived in spain I still managed to get
: over just to see Pak Ariffin at least once
: every few months, and my family commitments
: are VERY complicated, so its just a question
: of priorities.
:
: 3) Silat gayong UK operates differently from
: Gayong Malaysia.
: We have modified the syllabus and ANYONE
: teaching a class under the name of Gayong uk
: MUST be following OUR syllabus.
: For legal and safety reasons we have certain
: official requirements for our
: instructors..such as Criminal record checks
: and comprehensive personal injury and public
: liability insurance.
: We are a professional , well established
: organisation, it is not simply a case of
: turn up and start your own class..that leads
: to lack of quality control and chaos.
: 4)Hafiz did not ask permission to promote
: his website on either Pak Ariffins board (
: as is requested in the rules ) or on mine,
: neither did he greet us with salams or even
: a hello..thats just plain rude in my book.
: 5) You posted a telephone number on the
: website, again in contradiction to the
: discussion board rules , and again without
: asking the webmaster.
: 6) When you first started the classes up
: there , I mailed Hafiz to ask for the
: details of the classes and the students for
: our Gayong UK records, I have still not
: received either the details or an
: explanation as to why they have not been
: sent.
: 7) A small point , but Hafiz has posted
: himself as Cikgu Hafiz..a point of adab ,
: but an important one..if he is teaching us
: silat , he is a cikgu, it means teacher and
: is not a title that you apply before your
: name in normal useage..if he is posting
: himself as cikgu on Pak Ariffins and my
: websites, is he our teacher ?
: It is not appropriate or correct to call
: yourself a teacher such when you are not in
: the act of teaching.
: It may not seem important, but for me it is
: an indication of a very prolific sickness of
: the ego these days, which is the love of
: titles and positions..Gayong UK does not
: accept this and our instructors do NOT call
: themselves Cikgu this or that in everyday
: life.
: We are not following the way of the common
: people nor of the self appointed ones, we
: expect a higher standard.
:
: All the above have lead me to the conclusion
: that Mr.Hafiz has no interest in being part
: of the Silat Melayu structure we have built
: here over the last 10 years, has no interest
: in displaying good manners to the Ketua
: khalifa of Gayong UK and has just set
: himself up as some sort of GURU on his own.
: I am surprised about that because it is from
: a Malay and from a Malay who practises
: Gayong..I expect better manners.
: My apologies to you , my comments were not
: directed at you but at Hafiz, who should
: know better.
: all the best
: Sulaiman Simon Lee
