I had a fraternity brother who was from Indiana. According to his "story", his high school graduation summer was spent working at a casket factory, and I can believe that.
He went on to say that he hitched a ride from Indiana to California on one of the casket factory's trucks delivering caskets to Travis Air Force Base in California. I'm not sure if I buy this part of the story.
It seems to me that bulky items like that would have been sent by rail to CA and NOT driven all that way by truck. And, I would think vendors would have to go through government procurement agencies with their goods and NOT deal directly with a specific base. I have ZERO facts to base my opinion on.
