We do most of our show heifers in the grooming chute. With several of the halter broke cows I just use a gate next to the fence, held up by a couple of steel posts, to form a short alley. The front of the gate is by a post so the cow can be tied to the post in front. I also put a two by four in the front so the cow is held pretty much stationary once tied. The gate keeps the cow from spinning on me.
