My son has a steer that was purchased at an auction. The first few days at home were ok. Then he went suddenly lame on his right rear leg with swelling in the hock area. Since all the steers purchased were showing signs of shipping fever (temps 105-106)all were given sulfa bolus. The other two are doing fine. The one still has leg swelling and now will not walk on leg. Vet took x-rays, neg. Tried to asperiate, no fluid, micro showed nothing. Then talking to someone they suggested this, Mycoplasma infection in the joint. Has anyone dealt with this? I've read alot on the internet, and talked with vet regarding this, now steer is on antibotics. What about feeding a joint supplement to assist mobility? Which one would work best for steers? Thought about Cetyl M but nothing for cattle, just equine/dogs/humans.
