Alto has some pretty nice steers they have black baldies (angus, hereford cross) and straight bred herefords i accually went to the CNPHA sale and show and they had some pretty good show steers and heifers. i showed a black baldie before and it did pretty good but there will always be better ones out there. and like said before herefords wont stand with most angus some would but they are hard to find and if you do find one it will cost you some bucks.herefords are real good if its your first year they have a controllable attitude unlike most angus. they will do good with only herefors in the class unless you fell you have a real nice one.

: Don't know anything about that particular
: breeder, or about showing steers in
: California, but if they break by breeds
: (where your Hereford shows against only
: other Herefords in class) then a Hereford
: could be a really good place to start - they
: usually have very good tempraments and are
: pretty easy to feed. If they have to show
: against all breeds in class, then yeah, it
: can be pretty tough to compete against the
: blacks with a pb Hereford. There are some
: that can, but they'll be hard to find and
: maybe pretty pricey if you do.

: I would not get a hereford, most judges
: perfer
: blacks and its easier to win with a black
: steer. I would go angus, chi, maine,
: simmital or a combination of these. I dont
: know what part of cali you are from but if
: you can get ahold of the schooners in
: chowchilla, ca they could probably tell you
: where to look.
