Being accused of cheating and hated for winning is something I can relate to. To this day it grinds at me that my families honor and good name would be so degraded. I'm sure the people who repeated and started those rumors thought they were just stating the facts too. However when I stand before God on judgment day cheating at a livestock show is one thing my conscience will be clear of. I find it ironic that we are only whispered about at local po-dunk Fla shows were we are competitive. We are every bodies friend in GA. As to the character of the above mentioned people; I can not testify but they have always been polite to me. Someone from our family tries to shake hands with the winners wherever we go specifically if they are tied anywhere near our stalls. I find that many times the kids and families are surprised anyone would do that and thats a shame. I think it helps you move on to find joy in another's success
I am not a fool and know cheating can and does occur but accusations should not be thrown around behind screenames and whispered in corners. If you have an issue if you know something for a fact bring it to the show committee. This forum is not an appropriate place to vent and make innuendos. The damage that can be done to honest people is to great for people to be making accusations willy-nilly.
p.s. these families show or have shown heifers and I've heard just as much crap about that.
SORRY IF I SEEMED TO BLOW UP A LITTLE BIT ITS JUST A PET PEEVE OF MINE AND I'M STILL A LITTLE TOUCHY ON THE SUBJECT.

: ok, im sorry to sound like a big S##T starter
: everytime I post, but just to inform mr.
: willcone, smoothj is just stating the facts,
: because I dont even show steers, only
: heifers.The whole conversation about
: cheating was aimed toward steers, soooo.

: Sounds like the problem is a bunch of sore
: losers running around accusing people of
: cheating. I don't know everything but I do
: know sore losers are far more common than
: cheats. Ga ya'll have an awesome program to
: bad some people can't appreciate what you
: have.

: Clay, regarding heifers, there are still
: several competitive showmen/families who are
: not "done", including yourself.
: You left out a lot of names. I expect the
: heifer competition to continue to get
: tougher as it has in the past few years.
: There will be "heat".
:
: Regarding the steers, I'm glad there were
: advisors on the ad hoc committee who were
: willing to address this topic and make some
: changes. On the state level, these things
: have been ignored. atl, this topic is
: discussed, but in whispers and innuendos and
: that's not the right way, either. And we
: all know that this is not the first time
: there were underhanded things going on.
: Parents need to be the noisemakers, we're
: the ones with the biggest stake in this
: ($$). But, from experience, I have learned
: that if you speak up, you are accused of
: "hurting the program", "it's
: all about the kids", "that's just
: a rumor", etc. I have also heard over
: the past few years, that letters to the
: state offices about problems have been
: ignored. Is the program hurt more by
: correcting a problem or pretending that
: there aren't any?

: Clay I don't think you have anything to
: appologize for, but I think that it is very
: good that this topic has come up even though
: this boardroom may not be the best place to
: discuss it. The fact of the matter is that
: some really shady doings are going down and
: SmoothJ is right on the money. I believe
: there is enough support from showmen and
: their families to get something done, but I
: think some local and state advisors need to
: grow a pair. Being a thug is not what
: livestock showing is about.
