Posted by Cowboy I NEVER give reproductive shots in the neck area -- never. There are lots of reasons for this, and I won't do into them here, but it all comes down to efficacy of the drug and it's available blood flow from the injection site. I usually give all repro drugs in the hip -- I know that the packers say NO, but they don't have to worry about reproduction rates and the costs of getting cows in heat etc. The hip just works BETTER for this scenario - period. I have gone and done them on the outside of the round, but NEVER on the back of the leg (Nerves are small and very sensitive to needles, unless you have never seen one go down, it's hard to explain!!!!) Hope that sums up the question -- do your own thing, but that is my take on the injection sites for REPRO drugs -- most others will work in the neck -- but I don't get the results from that area for this program! 60 days is a good rule of thimb for most herds, although I have seen them done earlier, they usually do not do as well -- I make sure they have had thier SECOND natural heat before trying to syncronize them for breeding.
