When I got my trail permit in San Jacinto, they told me that I would also need a campfire permit for the stove I would be using.
I explained that I already picked one up at MCRS.

: Ah, interesting. I wasn't aware that
: some issuers would foreshorten the
: expiration dates.
:
: And so I guess the regulations are
: different for San Jacinto? Your
: Wilderness Permit for San Jacinto
: does not also serve as a permit for
: a stove?

: When I went to MCRS, for my campfire
: permit (that was the only reason I
: was going there since I was going to
: pick up my other permit(s) at the
: ranger station in Idyllwild), they
: told me specifically... "Due to
: increased fire risk, we are no
: longer giving out annual fire
: permits. The permits that we give
: out are only good for the days of
: your trip".
:
: I gave him the date(s) of my
: proposed trip to SanJacinto and he
: proceeded to write me a regular
: campfire permit .
: In the exiration date field at the
: bottom of the permit, he entered the
: date to expire 1 day after my trip.

: Did you have to get two permits or
: just one? In other words did you
: have to get a separate Campfire
: permit or did you just get a
: Wilderness permit alone?

: No siree.... Not confused.
:
: When you get a campfire permit from
: Mill Creek, they do NOT put the
: exipration date as the end of the
: year.
: They put it as the last day of your
: planned trip.
:
: When I did SanJacinto in May, they
: would not give me an annual fire
: permit for my stove.

: Patrick,
:
: I think you're confused. The
: campfire permit issued by Mill
: Creek Ranger Station is the same one
: as issued by any other Forest
: Service office and is good through
: out the calendar year issued. The
: wilderness permit issued by Mill
: Creek is specific to the SGW and is
: only good for the day(s) noted on
: the permit.

: Doing the online permit seems like a
: better way to go since the MillCreek
: Ranger Station will ONLY provide a
: permit for the dates of travel
: whereas the online permit is good
: all year.
: I hope its legal in the SanG
: Wilderness, though.

: A "campfire" permit is
: required for backpacking stoves.
:
: You can get them at any Forest
: Service station. I believe BLM and
: Cal Fire stations will also have
: them.
:
: Sierra National Forest has
: Campfire Permits available online .

: Yes. Mill Creek Ranger Station has
: them.

: Do you need a permit for a portable
: stove? If so where can I get one?
